Sovereign AI Services

Use AI without giving up control.

Many organisations want to use AI but can't send their data to servers outside their jurisdiction. Sovereign AI services solve this: access, build and run AI on European infrastructure. Your data, your models, your rules.

35+ open-source models · 3 model hubs · built by 28 European partners

What you can achieve through
AIoD

Open infrastructure

Access a full portfolio of open-source AI models: LLMs, vision, OCR and code models, all comparable and ready to use. Including European multilingual models like Teuken, built for 24 EU languages where global models fall short.

Sovereign operations

Your data, models and operations stay within European legal jurisdictions, out of reach of non-European regulations like the US Cloud Act.

Production-ready AI

Start small with on-demand model access, then move to dedicated hosting with guaranteed service levels (SLA) when your application goes to production. No GPU infrastructure to build yourself.

Interoperability

The API is OpenAI-compatible: keep your existing tools, SDKs and code, just switch the endpoint. Models and providers stay interchangeable. No lock-in, ever.

Compliance by design

Build EU AI Act compliance in from day one, with self-assessment, risk-scanning and AI testing tools, instead of retrofitting it when changes are expensive.

Scalable deployment

Run on a network of European providers: LuxProvide, IONOS, CONVOTIS and more. Distribute workloads by cost, capacity or compliance needs, without depending on any single vendor.

IONOS CLOUD AI Model Hub

IONOS CLOUD AI Model Hub provides secure, scalable access to leading open-source AI models via OpenAI-compatible APIs, with full control over sensitive data.

This information is sent via a central API to a hosted large language model, which generates a response that is returned to the user. The diagram highlights the flow between query, document retrieval, prompt generation, and response delivery.

Continue your AI deployment journey

Deploying AI is only one step. AIoD helps organisations connect with partners, opportunities and ecosystem resources that support long-term AI adoption and growth.

Questions

Sovereign AI services enable organisations to develop and operate AI solutions while maintaining control over their data, infrastructure and deployment environment. They are designed to support trusted, compliant and independent AI adoption within European frameworks.

AIoD promotes open standards and interoperable services, allowing organisations to work with different models, providers and infrastructure options. This flexibility helps reduce dependency on a single technology vendor.

The European Model Hub provides access to a curated portfolio of open-source AI models through a central European platform. It helps organisations discover, compare and select models that best fit their needs.

Yes. AIoD provides compliance-by-design tools and resources that help organisations assess risks, support governance processes and align AI projects with European regulatory requirements.

AIoD connects organisations with European cloud, hosting and inference services, as well as testing and deployment environments. These resources help move AI solutions from experimentation to production-ready operations.

Global providers can be a good starting point, but they come with two structural risks. First, jurisdiction: data processed by US companies falls under US law (such as the Cloud Act), even when hosted on European servers, a problem for sensitive data and regulated sectors. Second, lock-in: once your applications are built on one provider's proprietary API, switching becomes costly. AIoD addresses both: services run under European jurisdiction, and the OpenAI-compatible API keeps your models and providers interchangeable. You can even migrate existing applications with minimal changes.

Yes, and this is one of AIoD's key strengths. Most global AI models are trained primarily on English data and underperform in other languages. Through AIoD, you can access European models built specifically for linguistic diversity, such as Teuken (24 EU languages) or EuroLLM (35 languages), alongside leading international open-source models. You can compare how different models perform in your language before choosing one.
